I bought some spare parts for my 66 this weekend and ended up with a NP 205 ( has high / low 4wd) transfer case and a NP 435 4-speed, out of a 66 F250. My 66 uses the NP435 4-speed and a Dana 21 ( no low 4wd). Looks like the later ford 4wd's used these married to the NP435. I have never had just the ( 2wd hi / 4wd hi ) in a 4x4. With the Granny gear i will get a "low" 4wd for one gear is there any major advantages to either one? I will probably use this more for a toy and limited off road use. Has any one done this conversion ??
After I busted my 3rd Dana 21 case, I put a NP435/NP205 combo out of a late 70's F150 in my old 66 F100 4x4. I had some problems with the Tcase hitting the cab floor, but other than that it was great! Low gear/low range is awesome!
I have a t98 backed up with a dana24 and I can walk faster then the truck moves in 4low 1st gear lol, the np205 is a good case. Lots of upgrades and parts available.
Thanks for the info. After doing some research on what it would take to put the NP 205 (divorced now) to make mount to my NP 435 and drive shaft changes is more than i want to take on now. I'll probably throw the NP 435, NP 205, and drive shaft from the 66 F250 under the bench for a later project or trading material.
Looks like it would be a lot easier if i could round up a married NP435/ NP205 out of a later model F150.
Why not use a t98 and divorce mount the tcase? You'll get better drive shaft angles and maintenance is way easier lol, I used to have a 66 swb 4x4 and I like the divorced setup on my 64 better.
