Hi,
I just bought a 71 F100 4x4. It has a transfer case that appears to be married to the NP 435 through anintermediate housing. I thought that these years only had divorced t cases, true? Is there anyway to ID it?? The guy said that he's sure it's a gear driven model so I was thinking a NP 205 but then he said that the only choices are 2wd and 4wd. There is no 4hi or 4lo which is normally characteristic of a NP 205. Can anyone help?
My '69 F-100 has the Dana 21 which is a one-speed T-case. That means it's a straight transfer of the power it's already getting (4-Hi). As such, there's no 4-Lo (which would come from the T-case). I wish mine had both, but the only time I've ever really needed it is when I'm in serious off-road conditions (literally rock-climbing). For most conditions it works great.
edit: As far as I know, the only divorced T-cases were on the F-250. Also, it should have originally (might be long gone) had a metal plate riveted to the passenger side of the case with all the info.
