How does this little guy come off?

Still trying to get the heater box thing off the cab, and the vent door actuator cable is all thats holding it on. Is this thing even meant to come off? The wire wraps around the post, but its kinda brittle so I don't want to stretch it out to get it off.

On mine, I grabbed the push nut with a pair of pliers, and while rotating it back and forth, slowly work it up and off the shaft. At the same time I converted mine to the 81 style cable that has a different retainer(easier to remove).

I do pretty much the same thing, but I use needle-nose pliers.

Might want to clean up the shaft some with a wire brush beforehand.

yeah was just gonna say don't squeeze too hard...that thing will snap right in half.

Lots of different ways to hold it back on though.

Most parts stores have the "Help" line. I just bought a kit of several assorted push nuts at AutoZone.

Yours is(was) completely different than mine. Mine is the older style that doesn't have the cute little push nut.

I'm not sure you really need it. Once you get the cable clamped down it's not going anywhere. Once I pulled my little clip off....I still had to unclamp the cable to get it off.

I use a small zip tie in place of that special holding washer/nut. So far not one popped off yet.

That would work....I took some small wire and wrapped it around a few times and then took some pliars to it and squeezed it onto the shaft.
