I have an 01" F150 5.4L 2V and it has about 160K miles and it sounds great i just did a full tune up. Iv done some diagnostic tests and found nothing else wrong with it. I wanted to start saving up to replace the motor within the next year and was wondering if its even worth it right now if its running this good. the guy that had it before me ran it pretty hard but he said he tried to keep the oil changed regularly since he was on the HW a lot. My question is should look into replacing this motor or wait till i go over 200k
I'm running a '00 E250 with 264K miles and so far trouble free---I'd love to have only 160K miles---would feel like a new engine!
LxMan1 has this right---I'd save for the new engine, keep routine maintenance up and see how things go--no real need to change the engine if its still running good, IMHO anyway.
Why not start saving now? You may not need it any time soon but if something does break (with luck) you'll be able to pay for the fix with cash rather than credit.
I wouldn't plan on an engine any time soon, I have a 97 with the 4.6 that's got 186K (roughly) and it's still running like a charm. It'll probably get run into the ground before it needs a new engine but if something comes up hopefully I'll have the $$ in hand to fix it.
