I purchased a 1998 ford f-150 4x4 4.6l v8 windsor. Approx 250000km. The person I bought it off of didn't know much about vehicles but supposedly the top end had been rebuilt recently. It started running rough so he sold it.
Driving the vehicle home I noticed the oil pressure was extremely low and it was knocking under load.
I can get another engine with 100000km on it but I was wondering what the issues could be? See if it is worth while to fix the engine already in it or just go with engine swap? I also noticed oil in the upper part of the intake.
Depends on what the cost of the replacement motor is, and how long you can set while the old motor is being fixed. I am considereing buying a replacement motor and installing in a 24-48 hour period. I might be able to pull mine, rebuild and keep the cost lower than the replacement, but would probably be 3-4 weeks to do the overhaul considering i work long hour during the week. How fast do you want it done ? Is the replacement motor a "good" motor that you feel confident in running another 200K km?
The motor has 109000 km on it, which I was content with. I don't put a whole lot of km on vehicle over a year. I think it would be sufficient till the time came that I sold it.$1500 tax in
Im not able to wait that long really. Hoping to have it on road ASAP
I'm with Steve. All depends on your situation. I'd probably go with a swap if I were in your shoes. That's about what used motors run for price around here too so it sounds reasonable. Mine was a '98 too, I think you will love the truck! I did!!
