My '97 F150 has a seized engine, thanks to the infamous hydro-lock problem of water seepage. I have quotes of approximately $4000 to install a new engine. The truck book value is about $4500. I have had 'generous' offers of $500 for the truck as it sits. My question is : would anyone have any idea how much I could figure on getting for the truck 'as is' ?
I replaced my motor about a year ago in my `97 and it only cost me about $2100 after it was all said and done. Of course that was with pulling the old motor, and dropping the new one in. I paid someone to do all the machine work and everything that I could do at my house, I did. I would say if you have the means, do the work yourself and save twice as much money rather than waste it on insane labor charges.
