Fuel Leak

I have a 2001 7.3, there is a leak on top of the motor behind the fuel filter. I was told that the housing below it has plastic fittings and that may be where the leak is coming from.

The water-in-fuel drain valve is normally the first leak that will appear on the 7.3. The drain valve has 3 o-rings that will degrade from the additives in ULSD as the Nitrile o-rings that come stock will not hold up to todays fuel.

We recommend simply pulling the entire fuel canister out and replacing all of the Nitrile o-rings in the unit as there are 8 other Nitrile o-rings in the canister besides the 3 in the drain valve.

You can download a full instruction sheet from our website that will walk you through the entire job and for even a first-timer, it is only a 2 to 3 hour job.

I rebuilt the fuel-water drain in my 99 F350 last month using a repair kit from DieselOrings. The instruction sheet and accompanying photos were first rate and made the job easy. Thanks Bob!

Like mentioned above, DieselOrings.com is the place to go to get your repair kit.

Here is a video on doing the repair. It is based off of the Guzzle write up.
