Why don't ya just install a Pertronix module? It's simple and dang near bulletproof.

The '77 300's distributor will not work in your 351W.

You'll need a Pertronix module for the 351W's non-electronic distributor.

Yes you could get a distributor for any 351W that uses the duraspark II. Since your truck is a 77 all the wiring for the duraspark II is already there and you just need a 351W duraspark II distributor.

First thing that comes to mind is a 78 LTD with a 351W. We did this when we changed my brother's 84 from the EEC IV over to the duraspark II ignition.

If the distributor you have is a points style distributor then hooking it up is simple .

Distributors are basically a switch that tell the coil when to fire .

Most coils need a resistor to drop the voltage .

Power the positive side of the coil - through a hot wire from the ignition switch - through one of those ceramic resistors to the "+" side of the coil . Or buy a $15 14volt coil from the parts store that "does not need a resistor" .

The one wire that comes out of the point style distributor hooks up to the "-" negative side of the coil . When the points close it completes a circuit and tells the coil to fire .

Hooking up an electronic Ford distributor is not hard .

For about $50 including shipping you can buy a complete distributor that only needs a hot wire hooked up . It is an HEI chevy style conversion distributor with built in coil that fits the Ford 351w motor .
The clear cap is cool too .

A 351 Windsor distributor will not interchange with any other motor ( with out mods ) so you will have to get one specifically for the 351w .
