hello everyone, just starting to gather all the parts for a new motor. i'm going with a 396. it is going into a 95 f150 that currently has 302 (bought in a year ago with no oil pressure, just stuck a pump in it and put over 35,000 miles on it now im getting lotts of lowend noise) the truck has factory mass air. my question is what distributor do i need for it i got the 351 out of a 91 e250 van and got it totally complete. my 95 truck doesn't have the ingnition module on the distributor like the 91 motor did.
can i just get a 95 351 distributor and hope that there is not a modual on it ( the 351 trucks never had mass air did they, so i'm thinking there is goeing to be a wireing harness addapter problem.
so i'm looking for some input on this before i take the block to the machine shop and start spending money on somthing thats going to be a real pain to find parts to make it work.
I may be wrong on the year however, I do believe that the "module" mounted on the distibutor went away in 92... I am almost certain that any distributor from 92 and up will work... also for some reason, I think your distributor from the 302 will fit the 351 block.... maybe a fellow enthusiast has experience with this...
The distributor is the same mass-air or not. But like fishin said, you will need a distributor from a 351. Ford moved the TFI module (due to lots of heat related failures) to the fender I believe in 92 as B&B said, so you want one for a 92-up 351.
