Any parts house should have it or be able to get one. You will most likely have to remove the header to get the starter off. 2 out of 3 bolts on the starter are easy to get off. Use a long extension and a socket to get the remaining one off, it will make it much easier.
Just so you know, they do make smaller starters that give more room for a heat blanket.
The standard size starter makes it a little tight to install a heat shield.
A lot of folks here swear the heat from the headers don't affect their starter, but I had trouble with mine and finally went back to stock cast iron manifolds.
yeah- sounds like the starter was doing its job...just a bad relay.
the new ones have a reputation for sticking open.
the heat blanket is a good idea if you're running headers. i used to run a mini-starter without any problems (or blanket), but like OldHarley said, your mileage may vary.
as you've seen, that little solenoid is an absolutely critical part...you may want to spend some money on a real one. the last one i got from Napa stuck open after just a year, even though it had set me back $20.
my next one will be a Cole-Hersee.
have you checked your neutral-safety switch? sounds like it needs adjusting.
Do you guys experience parts store frustration as much as I do, they may as well call them Chevy Shops. Maybe it a regional phenomenon, but the 4 major
chain store locally don't seem to stock very many Ford parts.
They could fit a lot more parts in those stores if they did away with those crazy HID light displays everywhere >rant over<
