header and starter question

getting closer to having the truck back on the prowl,...but i'm worried about not having enough room between the header and the starter,
i have a 79 f 150 sc with a 390 and i did go with a racing starter because the old style was way to boo ko.should i go with some type of shield or try to rap them?
i live in kansas so it can get alot warm and will be driving in some stop and go traffic, yes we have stop and go traffic in kansas, you know with cattle drives and Indians shooting arrows and all/..jk
thanks

"Boo koo", or alternatively "boo coo", is urban slang for "great in quantity or amount". It is the phonetic spelling of the French word "beaucoup"

I think the comment about cattle and injuns was an attempt at humor given Kansas is in the middle of the country and not widely known to experience heavy, stop and go traffic unlike Los Angeles, Philadelphia, or NYC.

it doesn't hurt to put some heat shield to it because with heat the starter performs less effectively to the point where i you will force it thermo tec sells one

I had the same concern with the 390 in my '78. I wrapped the starter with some thermal insulation from Summit, part #THE-14120. Worked fine last summer

Learn something new every day. Taking the time to construct proper English sentences when you're asking for help is tough, isn't it?

Yeah, trying to read that sucked but he just wanted help. Seems like more and more people would rather pick others apart than help on this forum

No one is trying to pick anybody apart. I can't help someone if I literally cannot understand what they are saying. If you're asking for someone else's help, it's common courtesy that you don't make them jump through hoops to figure out what you're even trying to say. Especially since you as the person asking for help would expect the answers you get to make sense to you.

You mention the trend that this forum is taking with picking people apart - personally I think the long-time members here are the same as always; the real trend is more and more careless posts that look like text messages.

I'm also probably a little slow; you all might be better at reading between the lines and figuring out what someone else means. Personally I like to understand the context of someone's problem before I reply, but if that "context" is "my starter is boo ko", I have no idea what you're talking about.

Hey Wasowski, we are in the same city. I haven't any issues with Indians lately probably because they are spending more time now chasing buffaloes down Kellogg due to rising food prices.
My 74-390 is due for 2nd rebuild. 309,000 miles and cancer

It's just as important to keep the starter wire way from the heat. You may have to go buy a longer and heavier gage one. Keep it as far away from the heat as possible. Heat = resistance.

Increase wire gauge and fab sheetmetal shield to go between header and starter, have equal gap between each.
