So, how does one handle the VIN when swapping the cab and interior from one truck to another?
Specifically, I've got a 77 F-250 4WD 4-speed that has a ratty cab, and I want to move the incredibly-good-shape cab off my "parts" truck, a 77 F-250 2WD Automatic to the 4WD truck. I know I'm going to have to accommodate the shifter/4wd sticks, but how have ya'll handled "swapping" the VIN from the original cab to the new cab?
The tag on the door isn't "legally" a "VIN" plate, it's a warranty plate.
Legally the VIN stamped on the frame is what's used for title purposes. You can transfer the plate on the door to the new cab. Marti Marti Auto Works - Concourse Quality, Hobbyist Price has the special rivets to install the plate. You could also order a new warranty plate and cert. sticker. Marti's work is top notch.
