You sir have my condolences . Your situation is exactly why this last sunday I drove four hours to examine a T5 before purchasing it . There are @%*)&^ #$^&*()_ few honest people in the used hah rebuilt tranny trade . However there are some and to them I apologize .
Jim: A big 2 thumbs up to you Remember the old addage: " Once bitten twice shy " Glad thing's sorta worked out in the long run. Trusting people these day's is a real chore, maybe next time check and see any FTE members are close and ask them to take a look for you. If you even see something you like in the Great White North, I'd be glad to help. We have an International trucking company and I know a lot of people who would be glad to help.
If you weren't sober it would have been a whole other hell - I'm from the same time frame that you are, life is so much better - Remember it's not the last car of the train that kills you.
Glad you worked out your comfort with the Trans.
Had my clean 67 Mustang C4 on CL for a couple of months. Couldn't sell it for a hundred bucks, then couldn't sell it for 75 bucks, so I ended up selling it to a local rebuilder for $50 and he was happy to get it. Too bad the timing was off or I could have sold you mine...
So if the guy was inexperienced as you say, may he was just too pumped up about doing his first rebuild and bought the idea himself. After what you mention from tearing it apart it sounds like it wasn't as bad as it looked at first.
Anyway, I just wanted to add my thoughts and send another praise to that attitude of yours. You make it sound like you just eneded up with another big boy puzzle to play with.
i got so lucky with my tranny and 9 inch i'm allways way leary about ebay i bought my 70 fastback off ebay and was a wreck till i saw it in person then i was just disapointed
Yeah, I bought a C6 from a guy on Craigslist that had been "recently rebuilt and never driven". Same thing that happened to you. The transmission was slipping when we installed it so we pulled it back out and had it rebuilt. Of course once we opened it up you could tell that it had never been rebuilt. The good news is that I think I only gave the guy $200 for it, which was about what the core charge would have been.
