My ac will blow out of the vents like its supposed to and then i will put it in 4 wheel drive and it comes out of the defrost vents on top and on the windshield. I went to my mechanic and he said its the two wheel drive vacuum pump. Its on the passenger side of the motor right inside with 2 screws and 3 plug ins. He said it would be about 75 bucks from the ford house. I called em and they said it was a PUMP and that its 210 bucks. Is that right or what? where can i get one elsewhere?
If the air blows out the vent when in 2 wd but won't in 4WD then your pump is fine, and you have a vacuum leak either in the lines going to the hub or the hub seals.
I would check for a vacuum leak first before spending money on possibly a unneed part. More times than not (or at least in my experience) with the above mentioned problem
Yup, a new vacuum pump solenoid fixed mine as well. My truck had the same symptoms as you described. There is a way to test it though before you spend the money tho... See the thread below for how to test.
