6.4 has been making a slight knocking noise at the beginning of acceleration and up to about 1500 rpm. Then it either stops or is being drowned out by road noise - cant tell. Ive had it at the dealer three times in a month. First trip they said all was good - a normal sound. Second time they werent so sure so they kept it 2 days and checked the motor over including compression tests on all cylinders. All checked out fine. They said 2 of the injectors were louder than the rest and chalked it up to injector rattle. A week later the engine light came on so that called for a third trip. I had a stuck egr valve which was replaced. The knocking is still there. The truck runs fine and always has but I cant stop thinking that it may be a more serious valve train type problem. My question is this - would compression test reveal a potential valve train issue and if it is just injector rattle - is that as normal as my service dept says it is? ANY INPUT IS WELCOMED! THANKS
Thanks senix. They also told me that the noise stopped when they went through and turned each injector off one by one. (that's why they said a couple of em were louder than the rest). How do they disable each injector? Is this with a computer or a manual procedure?

So in your opinion, they can make a good determination of whats going on deep within the motor without actually tearing it down? Would it be worth another dealer taking a look or will they perform the same diagnostics? Its warrantied for another 48k so i guess if it all goes south - it will be on ford, but i really dont want to see that happen.
Thanks alot for your advice. btw - do you use or recommend any type of fuel additive that may help prolong engine or injector life? I didnt know if that would help or hurt or neither.
Pick yourself up some Diesel Kleen from Walmart. It's cheap insurance in my opinion. The Diesel Kleen may not be "the best", but it is easily available at any Walmart and many other places, and it is "very good" (and priced right too).
