I had the belt off my truck and checked the water pump for play. I guess I really don't know how much is too much. I probably have a 16 of an inch, maybe less, up and down. What is the normal? Should I be looking to replace this one? No leaks yet.

No play is the norm. Keep an eye out for a leak from the weep hole.
If you've got 1/16" movement, I would plan on preparing it at your first convenient opportunity. Sounds like the bearings are going out and then it will probably start leaking coolant soon.
Got mine from Clay, best price plus buying from Clay is supporting here, good guy too. Mine started to weap a bit and for a 150.00 its just worth it than paying for a catastropic failure, fan blade letting loose and taking everything in front of it, rad, cooler, exct. Replaced mine at about 175,000, stock unit, says alot.
Not to be the spoil sport, but my factory water pump went bad recently with 85K miles. The pump shaft shifted forward toward the radiator until the pump vanes/impellers were contacting the adjacent stainless steel plate. I replaced it with an Airtex. Figured the Airtex would probably last as long as the factory pump lasted.
Thanks for the replys. I guess I will have to schedule a new one. I will probably get the oem from Clay. 100,000 miles on this one. I need to order some other stuff also.
I guess I should check the play on a new one so I will remember.

Airtex is the supplier for OEM. My water pump went at 60,000.
