The dome light in my '94 Ranger came on by itself and now it won't go off. Doesn't matter if the switch is on or off, or if the doors open or closed. Also, my buzzer, which doesn't work all the time for the most part, is buzzing all the time too. I took the bulb out of the dome light to keep from running down the battery, but I need to do something about that dang buzzer. I assume there are switches on the doors, but I don't know exactly where they are. How can I tell if the door switch(es) are bad? How easy is it to disable the buzzer all together??
Allrighty then....as a temporary measure, I pulled the plug on the buzzer. Now one can drive this truck without losing their sanity (continuous annoying buzzer). Trouble is, for some reason, there are 7 wires going into that plug. I did not notice any trouble with the plug disconnected, and the truck appears to drive OK. The only oddity I noticed was that the volt guage isn't working. Of course, I'm not 100% sure it was working anyway, because my son normally drives this vehicle.
Anywho, guess I'll stick with this set-up until I can get the original problem resolved.
A spritz of WD-40 in the door latches may lube up & fix the stuck dome light switch plunger problem, as the switch is located in the door at the latch & is a common problem part on many Fords, but somewhat difficult to get at & change, but spritzing it with WD-40 every 6 months or so works for most folks & is easier & less aggravating than removing the door panel to get at & replace the switch.
If you do have to replace the switch, look in the "Tech Info" thread, located atop the forums thread listing page, for tips on how to replace it. Lots of other good wrench turning info there too.
wd-40 as above but then slam both drivers and passenger doors repeatedly (don't be shy!!) to free up the switches. you can also spray electronics cleaner into the dimmer switch and work that in.
I had the same thing on my 1995 last month
I tried really slamming the doors and spraying- did not work.
What I had to do was remove door panels not to hard- remove latch on both doors clean real well and relube them up- they work perfect now.
Took about hr per door- not hard to do.
