I've got my 429 mounted in my '79 F250 frame. I don't have the tranny in yet but I've been trying to put the alt and p/s brackets on. Should I be able to bolt the original brackets on and use them or am I going to have to change something? I know the motor isn't exactly were it's going to end up once the 4 speed is in but something doesn't look right. Looks like the alt and pump are going to be really close to the frame if it fits at all.
Your brackets should work just fine! I run the lower mounted Alt in mine without issues. 1978 F250 w/429 ahead of a C-6 4x4 mounted w/L&L rubber mounts. Plus I'm using a 3g upgraded Alt now.

Ignore above statement. See posts 5,6 & 7 below...

Thats interesting. If you are using a car 460 the stock location for the alternator will hit the frame rail. And on a 3/4 ton the PS pump will hit the gear box- it works fine on a half ton though. There's a reason L&L makes new accessory brackets for the swap.
I don't know... I did the motor swap in 98 and tend to make things work with what I have. I will take pics tomorrow but I don't remember using anything other than stock mounting brackets. Probably used the 400 p/s pump and 65amp alt that were in the truck.

Alt bracket will not work as said, it will hit. The power steering bracket won't work either but it can be modified to work. I changed the top hole location and tilted the bracket up some then made up a adapter for the bottom bolt. Then I modified it so the pump could move down farther into the 3 slide holes. I made a bracket for the alt but someday I'm going to buy the L&L alt set up.
I took some pics this morning and they are posted below. These belts have been on there since 1998 when I did the engine change over. Less than 50,000 mi's though as she's not my dd.
Lots of room for the P/S pump; even at full belt extension I don't think it hits.
I didn't use the outer Alt mounting bracket. Doesn't seem to be an issue and the belts don't get loose or wear. Seems solid.... 14 yrs.
The Alt adjustment bracket is a little tight but it still doesn't hit the frame. I ground some off the edge for clearance during the 3g but the adj edge isn't much to begin with so it couldn't have been more that 1/4 in. Sorry can't get the camera in there to take a pic from the front to show it....
Your alternator is bolted to the head. The stock set up has the alternator bolting to the block where it would hit the frame. I moved my alternator up to the head with home made brackets. Pics are in the link in my above post.
Well I pick up my clutch tomorrow so I'll see how everything lines up. I was hoping to use the stock mounts but I don't know. I don't want to jerry rig anything but really didn't want to spend the extra $200 on new mounts either.
