Hi everyone,
I am in phoenix driving to Texas in a couple weeks, I have a 1999 Expedition 4x4 xlt 5.4 regency with 181,500 miles on it. I WANT TO ADD FLUID AND CHANGE THE FILTER. Ive had it for a year when i got it it had 160,000 on it. i was told during the inspection that i needed the tranny flushed soon. That was a year ago... 6 months ago i took it somewhere and they said i might as well not change it now because it will break down on me in a week. But recently someone said i should just do it anyway. 4 months ago i put Lucas transmission stop leak to help a little. Any advice?
I would stay away from a flush!
If you want to drop the pan, change the filter and put new oil in that would be fine.
I would never use any snake oil in it like you did though!
agree with PHil 100%... drop the pan and change the 5 quarts. Probalby can not get the other 8 out of the converter. Clean the pan, wipe off the valve body, clean the magnet, new filter, and 5 new quarts will all help. It is never to late to do preventative maint. DO NOT FLUSH. all the crud will break off and go thru the valve body.
yeah i looked on youtube, and it looks pretty easy besides the mess. But i think im gonna try and do it by draining thru the cooling line like i saw on youtube.
that gets the oil oil, but the crud and goo is layin gin the pan, and on the valve body.. and the magnet will be covered with steel powder... and the filter is inside.
