2005 Tranny Fluid Flush/Change
Been watching the Tacoma Forum to keep up on the wife's truck and came across these instructions (see link below) to "soft flush" the tranny fluid. Could the same (with vehicle-unique modifications) be done for my 2005 Explorer 4X4?

If you have ever had the pan off a transmission, you will quickly figure out the best thing you can do for an auto trans, is to take the pan off, wash out all the sediment, wipe off the valve body, clean off the magnet, and change the 5 quarts of oil in the pan. After that, if you can change the other 8-9 quarts that are in the converter and lines, that would be o.k. also.... but FIRST, get the pan off. I have removed the pan, replaced filter, oil, clean magnet and got rid of the crud every 40 K miles on our EXP. I just put 5 quarts back in to refresh the oil. If i had bad oil or slipping, i might consider going further. Each time i take the pan off, there is more crud and sediment on the bottom and stuck onto the magnet. You need a new filter also. Dont believe it is only a screen.

The answer to the original posters question is yes. Also it is the best thing you can do, but it does not do away with the need to drop the pan and replace the filter. and wipe off any crud that builds up there. If you leave that stuff in there, it will sooner or later cause problems. Do the pan first. If you change the fluid often enough then you never need to flush it, just the pan change outs is enough. The recommended interval is 30,000. If you have much more than that, then yes, you need to get all the old fluid out and the gentle flush method is the best way to do that.
