Need to have gauges to monitor at least EGT(Exhaust Gas Temperatures)

After that many monitor boost, trans temp, fuel pressure.

Then you will need the PCM code.

The settings are what ever you think you will need and do? Do you tow? If so how heavy, do you want race or performance tunes, or economy or mountain tuning. Do you want to have to send the chip back in when you want changes then F5...F6 if you like the idea of receiving changes via Email.

Yeah... what BigAlsPSD said. I don't know how much homework you've done, but have a look around this [LINK].

You could always try tuning yourself...

Or you could go TS-style chip and buy a burner and get quite a number of different tuners tunes. I'm not sure if you get the F8 from DP whether or not you can use a traditional style TS burner to burn them though. Never asked.

As for the DP I would say the majority of people will not do anything in the way of changes, it's the tinkerers and the hobbyist that enjoy tweaking things a little more, or down the road if you change injectors or make other mods.

Did you decide against the F6?

Ive read so much Im not sure what to get.
Im not intrested in tweaking it etc , I just want to get to work faster..........

I havnt decided against it but I havnt really seen anything that makes it any better than the Edge Im running in my 02.
The Edge has served me well for over 5 years and my 02 goes like crazy and runs great.

I know for sure I dont like the Superchips Im running now in the e99.

I don't know enough about the canned tunes to compare the differences, I went with the custom tuner because my truck is no longer completely stock. Didn't you say you had a built transmission? If so - custom tune might be the answer.

My recent 4" exhaust put the exclamation mark on my 80e power bump, I'm here to tell ya. I now find myself going easier on the fun pedal because I no longer need to floor it to get the testost-o-meter to register.

It is amazing, Even on a mostly stock truck.

high idle, Stock, 60t, 80e. Is what i have and love it. Althought it is coming back from being adjusted as we speak from having the downshifting removed..

You do need at minumum, EGT gauge.. Without the gauge you are asking for trouble.

Jumping in here, (and I read all the exhaust postings lately) - is there a big downside to running a DP tuner with the OEM/factory exhaust? I don't feel like dumping another $300+ into an exhaust system, if it only shaves off a few horsepower at the top end. I'd like just 'some more' horsepower and better economy (if possible). I'm not towing heavy stuff or racing other folks. Thanks!

Steve, you may want to consider just doing a muffler deleate to allow the exhaust an easier path to the outside world. I don't have any number to back anything I say, but just looking at that monstrosity of a muffler, it just has to restrict the flow. Some on here don't like the drone, I just don't hear anything but sweet diesel exhaust.
Is there a downside running it, other that a bit of restriction, prolly not.

I have a 3.5" stock exhaust. I had it straight piped and drove me nuts with the drone and sound. I slipped in a summitracing pass-thru (open thru) inline clamped on muffler and that got be back down the satisfactory volume. The truck pulls like a tractor pulling the 5th wheel. And the chip was well worth it for me, Can't believe how much difference the dptuner made.

I just made a surprise discovery today. I'm doing my AE thing, complete with a high-res vid on the cab gauges - and I just realized my stock tune has a bump in performance with my new 4" exhaust. I didn't see that coming.

That being said, the DP Tuner alone gave me the biggest jump in performance, then all my changes here and there just augmented the tunes. I am satisfied with what I have now. My shopping list? Windshield, stereo, tailgate, summer floor mats, etc....

Curious about having the downshifting removed? Was this in tow tunes or another position?
Thanks.
