IPR testing/questions

I have had a hard start hot for some time now. Right now I have my truck torn down trying to figure it out. It appears that I have no HPO leak under either of the valve covers. I am starting to question the IPR. I took it out and it has a very little bit of stuff on the screen, very little.

Anyway will the IPR make a hard start hot? Is there anyway to bench test it? Also the electronic solenoid on the IPR appears to be loose, is this normal? When I applied 12v to the plug it didn't didn't appear to do anything. I thought it might cycle.

When I had it up and running last my AE software was showing around 3000psi desired but it was only getting between 950-1500psi.

Here are some ICP readings

Cold key on engine off
.2 v
0 psi

cold idle
.8-1.0 v
550-600 psi

cold driving @2000rpms
2.0 v
1700 psi

How loose is the IPR electical connector
If it does spin around the Housing its OK

IDK if the IPR will Make any noise with 12 volts applied most say they dont hear anything

To test the HPO system you can use compressed air since its apart to hear leaks

But the Numbers you gave when it was running are NO GOOD as in NOT taken Right

when you get the truck running again and you take ICP and IPR% the truck must be Fulley Warmed up so an ECT 190* or close. And also truck needs to be in Park. These things are VERY VERY Important

You will take 3 readings at diffrent times for ICP & IPR%

1. KOEO= Key On Engine Off

2. LOW IDEL= Truck Idel on its own

3. HIGH IDEL= 2500rpm

All done Truck at 190ECT and In Park here is the values
Numbers are given in order I list above last 2 numbers will be operating range dont worrey about those
IPR # 14.84 24 40.60 0 - 50 PERCENT Injection Pressure Regulator
ICP 0.2 1.0 1.8 0.15 - 4.7 VOLT Injection Control Pressure
ICP_DES 0 625.5 1400 - 1450 0 - 4045 PRESSURE (PSI) ICP Desired

Did I lose ya????????????

If you can get your numbers like this we can tell the Health of the HPO System or you can compare then to the Values I posted from FORD

If this is the Case^^^^^^^^^^^^ then odds are you have a HPO leak

You can replace the IPR screen itself

Was the IPR Screen Torn,Pushed inside,Plugged???????

What year is the truck????????????

I am thinking you have a HPO Leak and the IPR is OK Post a Pic of IPR if can The screen

The truck is an 06. I will try to get a picture I the screen. It doesn't appear to be pushed in or cut. The truck has an updated stc, 1.5 years ago, and new stand pipes and dummy plugs last fall.

Normaly a No Start HOT is a HPO leak not IPR issue

Do you have OEM Oil Filter and OEM Oil Filter Cap

How did you determine no HPO leak in the Oil Rails under valve cover??

The HPO system sees up to 4000 psi no air compressor that goes that high that I know of plus should be hot

Ford filter and cap.

I guess if you put it that way I don't. I have both valve covers off right now. I also had the oil rails off and injectors out to check all the o-rings.

Just remember air will leak a WHOLE lot easier than oil will. 100 psig shop air for leak detection is typical.

Have you tried to air test it?????

Some people do find a HPO Leak by air testing

I think there are some other orings by the HPOP not shure if those get changed with the STC or not

Another thought is the orings in top of injectors where they connect to hpo rail

So I have the turbo out, valve covers off and the oil/fuel filter out. I put my IPR back in re-pressurized the system and cycled my IPR. When I close it I hear gurgling from, what sounds like it is, coming out of the oil filter base. That is the only place that I hear air leaking.

Any insight?

Hard to tell exactly where its coming from I know

But if your getting air in the Oil Filter housing the HPO pump is shot

Being an 06 you have the Good HPO Pump that dont Fail very often so IDK

I dont know if the Techs have a Other way to verify the HPOP or Not but with all the other updated parts that you have already replaced Pump is high on the List of possibilities

What all will I need to replace the HPOP. As in what new seals, or gaskets? I already have the updated turbo oil feed and drain lines and STC.

Also anyone recommend where to get the best price on a replacement HPOP? I see a remanufactured Bostech, and then there are the Ford ones. Are the Ford ones remaned or new?

I see I can get a remaned one with IPR for the price of a unit from ford.

I too am getting the gurgling in the filter housing when I pressurize at the ICP. I know my IPR is bad so we'll see if the air leak in the filter housing stops once I replace the IPR and energize it. I just got this truck and really hope the HPOP is not bad.

In the reply where you gave the testing order.
Can this be done with a SGII?
Or can I use my Snap On MT2500 with programmable
black cartridges that covers my 2006 with the CANbus
adaptor?
Thanks
Sean

Where are do your air pressure test from. The easiest is usually removing the icp sensor and plumbing in there with a regulated pressure of 90-100 psi.
