IPR numbers

My early 04, 6.0 psd with 218k on has been running great. I have a scanguage hooked up and monitor my IPR preasure as I am still on the original hpop, I have read several threads that say at "hot idle" IPR should be at 22 to 25, mine is always 22.6 to 23 ,at hot idle. The last couple of days we have had cold weather, for Florida, and I noticed my numbers would drop to 21.8, then back to 22.3 or there about a few times. I know if you hit 30 consistently it means the hpop is starting to leak, but what would cause the lower number?

Not sure what would cause it to dip like that, but nobody here is going to tell you those figures are anything to worry about.

A half a percentage point is splitting hairs, you are just fine there.

Anywhere around 21 is healthy, no leaks. Going from a 23 to 21 could be contributed by oil being thicker when cold.
If you didn't know already, the Injection Pressure Regulator reading , 21%, means the IPR is commanded to close 21% to maintain the ICP pressure that the computer desires, usually 585psi @ hot idle. So if the IPR jumps up to 30% closed, under the same conditions to maintain the same desired ICP then this can indicate an internal oil leak on the high pressure system. These internal leaks may only show when the engine & oil is hot, +186°.
I just thought I'd put that out there since I see a lot of people interpret the readings backwards thinking the higher the IPR % is the more it is open. When actually it is the higher the percentage the more it is being held closed to make pressure. Think of it as a dump valve. The higher the percent the more it is being commanded closed.
