ZF-5 Problems
Whats going to Cause me to loose Overdrive(5th Gear) and reverse? I lost it today leaving my buddy's shop. Need help fast guys.

What do you mean lost? It won't go into gear?? or once its in gear it wont do anything?

Sounds like your ZF needs a rebuild.

With only 130k? That sucks. Guess I'm lucky to only have worn synchros @ 198k?

Poor thing must of been abused!


Sounds like the OD and Reverse fork could of broken inside.

There is a shift collar that falls out that does that from what I read its one of more common problems with the zf usually caused from lugging in 5th. Read it somewhere a long time ago that's all I can remember.

Well either way I found a 7.3 that had a ZF-5 behind it. Bought the thing for 550 bucks.

Geez! what a deal... that's less than I paid for my ZF and milk crate of related parts.
