2000 Ranger auto trans ?
I have a 2000 Ranger, 4x4, 3.0, automatic. I think the torque converter is bad. I drive it everyday, but when I get on an incline the rpms stay up and my speed drops to where I can clearly tell it's not pulling like it should. I don't think it's the trans slipping, it seems to shift fine and doesn,t smell hot or anything. The fluid doesn't look or smell burnt. Just serviced the trans and nothing in the pan, so I figured it's the converter. I bought a new converter but then got to thinking if I'm gonna pull the trans I may as well go ahead and rebuild the thing. It's only got 120k on it.
Does this sound like the converter to you guys? Should I go ahead and rebuild the trans you think? If so does anyone know where I can get a detailed rebuild manual for my trans? I'm not sure but I think it is a 4R44E.
Thanks for any advice, suggestions or info anyone has.

If you are going to rebuild it anyway, get a shift kit. The stock trans is designed to slip between shifts to make the shifts feel smoother, at the cost of durability, especially when hauling loads or going up hills. A shift kit firms everything up an in the long run makes the trans much tougher.
