332-4.0 bore 3.3 stroke.
352-4.0 bore 3.5 stroke.
359/360/361-4.05 bore 3.5 stroke.
389/390/391-4.05 bore 3.785 stroke.
406-4.13 bore 3.785 stroke.
410-4.05 bore 3.98 stroke.
427-4.23 bore 3.785 stroke.
428-4.135 bore 3.98 stroke.
So as you can tell its easy to see that without pulling the heads off you can't really be sure what CID the engine in question is. But the pics will help in saying yes or no to the 427 block or not. And all FE's share the same bell housing so no need to worry about that.

The 330 FT motor has a 3.875 bore and 3.5 stroke. And cannot be bored to 4" or at least the one that i took apart anyway.
I'm sorry I've wasted everybody's time. I really should have paid more attention to what my friend was telling me and I should have looked at the engine closer. Posting these photos sooner would have saved a whole lot of discussion. Taking a second look I realized I got the C8AE-H casting number from the heads and not the block. I still haven't been able to find the block casting number which I read was somewhere near the front passenger side of the block. Looking at the casting numbers on the intake and left exhaust manifold leads me now to believe this is either a 360/390. The right maniford looks like it may be off a 1972-1975 vehicle. This engine is so mismatched I'm not sure what my friend has got into but I'm really doubting I get his $600 back.
Down under the starter is where you will find ----correction, see post 21-----the casting code. The link below shows the date code near the oil filter adapter machining on the block, just as noted in post 21.
The date code is usually behind and under the oil filter adapter. Looks like a 70's service block. Could be lucky and have a 428 there. Look for a counterweight on the flexplate/flywheel. Or pull the oil pan and look at the crank casting numbers. Nice clean engine, it's certainly worth $600, not sure if you can make a profit on it though, unless it's a 428, then it's worth twice that, easily. The valve covers are worth at least $75-100, these are the GT390/early 428CJ covers. Some FE blocks do not have any casting numbers, so don't sweat it if that are none. The bore and stroke are what count.
