Please help a newbie out

Found an FE Ford engine and I could use a little help figuring out what it is. From my searches I know it is an FE by the 352 cast into the block and the 5 valve cover bolts. I also learned that the only true way to pin point the displacement is to determine the stroke. If it helps I have head casting numbers and the intake casting numbers. Looking for a good engine for a 58 Ford half ton 2wd.

Heads are C8AE-H

Intake is C8AE 425-F

Its free if I want it or else it is going to the scap metal trailer. Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like a good starting point for an FE build. Whatever it is, it's valuable. ****** it up.

FWIW, I think an FE would be an excellent option for your '58.

I'm gonna guess it's a plain old 360. But like you said, the only way to tell is to measure the stroke. 3.3 = 332, 3.5 = 352 or 360, 3.784 = 390 or 406 or 427, 3.98 = 410 or 428

To determine exactly what it is you'll need to measure the bore. 4.00 = 332 or 352, 4.050 = 360 or 390 or 410, 4.13 = 406 or 428, 4.23 = 427 Got that?

Crankshaft ID#

Also, I think the crankshaft ID can be a good indication. I just dropped my oil pan over the weekend and found "2T", which is a 360.

My block is also stamped 352 front and back.

Well...

I've read elsewhere that the C8-H heads are the most common FE heads on the planet. Depending on where it originally came from, it could be a 360, 390 or 428. The cast-in 352 into the front and rear faces of the block don't really mean anything - there are versions with a mirror-image '105' out there as well. If it still has a carb and dizzy, numbers off those help pinpoint the engine size and where it came from as well, if it hasn't been changed in the 36 years it's been around. Pull a head and use Rusty's dimensions to know for sure.
