Hi all I know this is a question that has been beaten to death but I guess I just cant figure this out. I have a 1969 F-250 Vin #F25YRF77880 and I dont know exzactly what engine I have in it. Ok, I know the "Y" part of my VIN means it came with the 360, but my Chilton, (yes, I need a Chilton!!!) says the 360 didnt come out until 1970!? I looked all over the engine and here are the casting #'s I got:
Intake manifold just behind the distributor cap; C9AE-9425-B
From between spark plugs 2 & 3; C8AE-H
Below drivers side valve cover; 68 352
That last # got me wondering, is it a 352? I thought they stopped in 1967. When I get time Ill try the dowel method, but I think my timing is so out of whack that Ill need to get the chain replaced before I do that. Any help that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated!!!
Your intake, heads and block sound like 360 material although the 390 used the same parts too.
All DIF blocks have that 352 number on them. I remember a long time ago when a Chebby friend saw that number on my engine that just wooped him. He couldn't believe a 352 beat him and I went along with it.
I talked a chebby guy out of a 428 a few years back thanks to that 352 cast. hehehe. I'm assuming ford either ran out of 352 blocks or had extra 352 cranks and 390 blocks, or was it planned?
