steering box bad?
I put a post up a while ago asking for opinions. I have a 73 F100 2 wheel drive with 390. The steering screeches when turning at slow speeds. I opened the hood and looked at the steering pump pulley while someone turned the wheel for me. While turning the wheel at slow speeds I can see the pulley freeze up a bit. It looks like it strobes. I tightened the tension on the belt, no change. This weekend I changed the power steering pump, but still no change. Could something in the steering box be somehow restricting flow while turning? Any ideas?

Did you replace the belt too?. If a belt is glazed it can slip even though it appears to be tight. Also belts (usually the cheapie, Chinese belts) can break the cords internally and look okay but they stretch and no matter how tight you get the belt it'll slip.
Other than that, it sounds like the gearbox needs to be replaced.
I have the same truck, I went with Red Head Steering Gears and highly recomend them.
