steering binding/sticking

Anyone had any steering issues? I've experienced my steering wheel locking up or binding briefly a few times now while turning corners possibly while hitting a bump at the same time. It takes lots of force to turn it for a second or two and then it's back to normal. Something is definitely up, I looked around and didn't see anything loose. Anyone ever heard of or experienced such a thing?

Check tension on serpentine belt might be slipping

I don't know that it would be the serp belt slipping, maybe take it to the dealer and see what they say.

4x4 or 2wd? If 4x4 is it possible you've mistakenly put it into 4x4 and that's causing some binding? Every truck I have had will bind in 4x4...just a thought.

No its not that. It only seems to happen turning left so far. The steering wheel gets stuck like something is holding it or is catching on something. Very intermittent and hard to diagnose. I looked underneath and everything I can see is tight, maybe something is loose in the steering column getting caught in the knuckle or something, that's kinda what it feels like. One time I had to turn it the opposite way a little bit to get it to move back the way I wanted to go. The first time I just muscled it over and it returned to normal.

If you dont see anything yourself I would bring it in and get checked. If it locks in a higher speed turn you might hit someone or something.Under warranty still?

I had that happen years ago in a Trans Am and it was the steering box going out. Totally diff. type vehicle but it was internal to the box.

Thanks.
That was another thought but I figured if it was that it would be on the same spot of the turn and happen every time if the gears were bad or something, perhaps that's what it is because everything u can see looks good. It's either in the column or the box. How many times did it happen to you before you figured it out?

I'm 2000 miles from home and going from Pheonix to San Diego tomorrow or Tues. Still under warranty but I ain't exactly got time to make an appointment. Maybe I'll stop by tomorrow and see how busy they are. Hate for it to let loose going 75mph, heh.

You have hydroboost brakes? Check the fluid level in the pump if you do.

I am not quite up to speed..I think all F250's have vac assisted. I think F350's could be either.

My DRW is hydro. Might check to see if you have the booster behind your master cylinder. Or look at your window sticker.

Hydroboost sometimes does funny things like pedal kickback once in awhile.

Other item that comes to mine is something like a tie rod issue.

Nope they stopped doing hydro on the 350s since 2011. Started sometime late 2011 in the 2012s I was confused about this as well.
