ok so heres the deal. i have a 95 F150 351, solid truck. for the longest time i have heard a sort of ticking sound coming from the passenger side when the truck is running. I had the shop class at my work replace my gaskets and seals in the engine (for free), while they had the manifold off i was curious and inspected the passenger manifold and discovered that it has a very thin crack. would this be the reason for the ticking sound?
and also i was looking online and since im strapped for cash the cheapest pair of headers i can buy right now are summit racing headers, seem decent enough, but i have one concern, on the old manifold theres a sort of relay that goes from the header back into the air intake, not sure what its called. anyhow, judging from pictures the part that goes on the original manifold would not fit with a new set of headers, so what would be the solution here?
thanks for that, might be the easiest solution, although i would love a set of headers. already got flowmaster and K&N intake and the headers would round out the exhaust and intake.
The summit racing headers would actually be an alright replacement for the manifolds. The thing that you said is a relay, should be part of the EGR. If you put on a set of headers that don't come with the spot that it connects, it won't be the end of the universe, but it will decrease your mpg slightly, but probably not very noticeable on a 351. My truck has a 351 with the EGR bypassed and I only lost an average of 1/4 of a MPG, so like I said, not the end of the universe. But, I didn't put headers on when I bypassed it, and the headers should help with power and should raise your MPG a little with the flowmaster and K&N combo.
You could get a set of shorty headers to just bolt up to the original exhaust, but I would opt for long-tube. There is a real difference in the Windsor motors when you put on long-tubes vs. short-tubes.
