It has been years and lots of things have changed but in the old days they painted lots of coats of lacquer and sanded and buffed after each coat. I sprayed some lacquer but not much in my time.

Bill, This is a new "flat look" in urethane paint. Flatz Hot Rod Red The color is not very accurate on the website sample. I think that smokemcat's pictures are more accurate. Here are some pictures from the web. IMHO some of the colors work better in flat than others.
thank you both...very difficult build... I build mustangs and cougars... my grandfather owned one I play in it in the yard as a kid...gramps always wanted to restore it but never got to... I had some old parts off his truck on this one ....the gas cap...hood spears... and dash parts
