Ok I went to go look at one today that I found for sale, it had "no drill" under the rail mounts.. It didnt fit, there is no under the rail at that part of the bed. How in the world are you guys mounting these?
The things to watch out for with the cheaper boxes is the lock durability and the thickness/gauge of the aluminum. The bottoms of the cheepies tend to buckle and bow out with any weight in them. Buy one of the list and paint it with black truck bed liner. That's what I did.

I just mounted mine with 1/2" bolts through the bed rails.
How did you mount that? Drill through the bed/liner?
That looks like the same one I have...I installed it by drilling 3/8 holes threw the box and the truck bed and used 4 3/8" stainless steel bolts/washers/nuts to fasten it. Its been in my bed for 5years no problems/worries.

i have a liner and its hard to bring myself to drilling through it especially as it wont be in there all the time. Want to put a honda 2k generator in it and it seems like it may be better to put in a chest rather than to hang from the sides with a cross bed as far as supporting weight. Always something.
Not a good idea to ever go cheap on a tool box, it just invites trouble. I once had a Ranch Hand that cost $800 new. The thing about that box is you have to have round locks which are the only ones you can use, designed especailly for those locks.. There is no way anyone can get into that short of a cutting torch and dynamite, but those locks bounce and clang loudly.
My truck came with this Rawson Koenig box which I've come to really like. Not a cheap box by any means either, something like 18,000 pounds of prying pressure to break the lock. Might be 1800, I'll have to check but still, tough. Really like how they open on the sides. I can have an extension ladder up on the roof and still get to my tools. Couldn't do that with my old boxes.
I was thinking about buying one of those extra gas tank/tool box combo's.. Dont know how great they are but I only need a little space for some tools and with a V10 the gas would come in handy..

I been through that form head to toe. Ended up with some nato jerry cans and a siphon. But I'm trying to stretch money awfully far. Northern tool has one with the fill etc that the lid closes over which doesn't look at all like its a fuel tank. But finding good info about rigging your own with gas was nearly impossible. And the transferflow were out of my budget.
I'm trying to find a tool box for the back to put my honda 2k generator in, and maybe a couple jerry cans also, its down to mounting options vs functionality with chest vs cross bed on the rails...
