I have noticed a ton of the little rubber boot jut slides over antenna mast and just sit on top of the black plastic peice. That is not correct I've noticed on some 2012 the boot gets pushed under that plastic Peice. So since mine came in from order. I put it on and pushed it under that Peice and walla alot of windnoise is gone. And it was bad windy 2 day.
Go out and look at base of antenna, there is a black boot unless it's blown off already. Can you just lift it up the mast or is in pushed under the black plastic Peice by mast. Need a pic. I'll get one 2 morrow.
My understanding is that piece is supposed to be properly installed during PDI.
Or maybe it's supposed to be the factory but PDI should notice and fix it if the factory doesn't install correctly.
All 2011+ SD's have a radio antenna on the right side of the truck, don't they?
(Not the flat NAV antenna between the roof lights.)
Radio antenna on the right. Well there is alot that didn't get put together right. My service advisor wondered why there have been so many of them ordered, till they looked on the lot. Both of mine were that way. And I seen some still that way yesterday.
I just went out and looked at the antenna. I get what you mean there is a small rubber boot that is loose around the antenna, that when installed correctly, the wider base is under the plastic hood bezel. Mine is installed correctly.
I just got my new truck Monday. My boot was on correctly. I chopped off about 6 " of my antenna with a bolt cutter, making the antenna just slightly higher than the top of my truck. This serves two purposes. First, it does not drag on the garage door frame every time in and out. It also serves as a great monitor for clearance. If pulling into a low clearance situation and the antenna touches. You better stop before you go any farther. I did this with my 2000 F350 and it was soooo nice on so many occasions in tight parking garages. I would always know whether it was safe or not. Sometimes my eyes said "no", but the antenna said yes and it was always right.

Reason: spelling
Mine isn't installed correctly either. I'll fix that tomorrow.
Thanks for the info. I always thought it was kinda stupid just setting there not attached, but I guess I never took the time to figure out what was wrong either....

What kind of FM reception do you get after shortening the antenna? Antenna's are tuned to a certain length to maximize reception. Chopping 6" off the antenna cant be helping.
