was installed incorrectly going through a car wash. I saw it bouncing up and down the mast of the antenna. When the car wash was complete the boot was not there. I had to wait for the guy behind me wo finish with he car wash so I could retreve it. I found it and said to myslef, now that is stupid to have this thing just sitting there. So I tucked in under the metal. I am guessing the person who installed it wasnt having a good day and forgot how to do his job correctly by cutting corners. My question I wonder how many of these things are being ordered and replaced.
Huh, just saw this. Mine is also not on correct. I thought it looked stupid the way it was, but it's never gone anywhere so I left it alone. Car washes aren't an issue since the dually doesn't fit, but thats a double edged sword.
What kind of FM reception do you get after shortening the antenna? Antenna's are tuned to a certain length to maximize reception. Chopping 6" off the antenna cant be helping.
I am interested in this too, I would love to shorten the antenna so it doesnt hit the garage door.

While I'm not a fan of cutting the antenna and having a sharp end on it, it shouldn't hurt anything. The antenna on the wife's Wrangler was like a foot taller than the roof of the Jeep. I bought a 13" aftermarket antenna and surprisingly, she has noticed no loss of FM reception.
I have wondered if the Superduty would work the same because of the HD radio. My HD signal already fades in and out a lot. I will probably get a shorty for the truck in the Spring. I'm guessing that the HD deal is just that HD signal sucks in general where I am located.
I, too cut off my antenna, and made it 1" higher than the top of the truck. As stated before, if the antenna clears a low overhead, then I know the top of the cab will clear as well.
I solved the jagged edge problem after cutting off the tip by putting a vacuum line cap over the end. Unless you look closely, you'd never know that's what it is, it looks like a typical ball end to a regular antenna.
I always thought how stupid to have this thing sitting loose on top.Mines installed incorrectly too.Gotta go fix it! Funny I never even thought to tuck it under.Im an idiot!
Is it a matter of not being installed correctly? Lots of car washes take the antennas off before going through the wash. A few dealers around here have automated washes or contracts with washes to have the detailed before taking delivery. I'm thinking it's a matter of not being reinstalled correctly after the antenna has been removed for the wash.

Mine was never right, and there's no automated washes around here that can take the width of the dually. Kinda debunks that theory. That said I still didn't tuck mine in yet.

Passed a Semi hauling SD's today and noticed that none of the trucks had antennas on them. I'll be driving by the rail yard tomorrow where I've seen dozens if not hundreds of trucks being unloaded before. I'm wondering if the dealers put them on upon arrival?
