Jerry, where are you, geographically speaking? Perhaps there is an FTE brother nearby who has AE and who might be willing to help you out by running your code scans at no charge. I think we all understand how difficult your situation is, and your questions are not a bother at all. It's hard to diagnose fomr a distance like we're trying to do, but we'll keep trying as much as we can.
You're more than welcome. Being in Birmingham, I'm about 4 to 4.5 hours from you, which is just too far for me to be able to work out a trip right now. If I were closer, I'd be more than glad to help out with more in-depth troubleshooting. Hopefully, someone will be close by and be able to pitch in to help out.
EDIT: I just checked the Roadside Help Network and cannot find anyone close by. Again, though, perhaps there will be some other FTE brother who is not in the RHN who might also be close by. I know that if you ever get up into the Montgomery area, there are several of us who could help, but I know that is probably very unlikely in your current situation.
I just got off the phone with Pensacola Diesel from whom I've purchased some parts over the recent years and been impressed with their service and knowledge. They have actually shut down their service department, but the Power Stroke guy I spoke with very highly recommended a place in Milton (approx. 66 miles from Defuniak Springs) which is called Fleetpro Commercial. It's run by a guy named Cary who was a Ford diesel service tech for 20 years before opening his own shop.
The shop address is:
5811 Myrtle Road
Milton, FL 32583
PHONE: (850) 623-2224
If no one chimes in who is relatively close and who can help you out as a "brother", I'm sure that Cary can take care of an accurate diagnosis for you with relative ease. Who knows, he might even be willing to offer some free advice over the phone for starters. Make sure to tell him that the guys at Pensacola Diesel highly recommended him to you.
Jerry, hope you get it fixed. I'll have to remember that info for the guy in Milton in case i'm down there in PC or Crestview and cant fix my truck on my own. Keep us updated.
I took it back to the shop this am and the saud that was possibly air in the system after changing the ipr. After. 30 or so min running it seems to be a little better. ???????
Now that is indeed a possibility. When I changed the IPR in my Excursion, I read where that was a potential issue which could take as much as 100 miles of driving to purge all the air, but I did not experience any issue at all. I do have a crossover line between the two oil rails on that engine, and that could be part of why I did not see the problem.
Also, when my son and I just replaced all the o-rings on his HPOP, we were prepared for the same problem because we completely removed the HPOP, removed all lines, cleaned it out, replaced the orings, and then re-installed. What we did, though, was to prefill the HPOP lines, HPOP, and HPOP reservoir with oil before starting the engine. In that case, just like the other one for me, we did not see any rough running at all. And for my son's truck, he does not have the oil rail crossover line which is on both my Excursion and F250. All I can conclude is that we eliminated most of the air by simply prefilling and then cycling the ignition system a number of times before actually cranking.
Regardless, there are plenty of people who have reported that type of a problem, so you may just be OK after all.
