guages

Bought a .2001 7.3 the autometer pyro is hooked up but the guage seems to be stuck half way.is it nfg. Also the trans temp guage has been disconnected do i run a wire to the sensor only or do i also need a ground?

You need 12 volts for power, lamp voltage for the backlight, a ground to the gauge, and the sensor wire connects directly to the sensor input. The sensor provides a variable ground (to abbreviate the description) to the gauge, with the transmission body (or tubing) providing the ground. You might check the ground at the sensor installation point to make sure it is the same ground as the rest of the truck.

I have a different gauge type that has two wires to the sensor from the gauge, this eliminates the possibility of the transmission having a bad ground.

Does the ground half to go back to the transmission

No. Ground as close to the gauge as possable.
