Hello, I’m having a problem with my 1999 F250 with the 6.8 V10, During cold starts, it starts and immediately stalls 2-4 times (depending on outside air temp, warmer = less stalls) before it starts and runs. Using a scanner I found the coolant temp sensor to be reading about 3 volts when it should be reading about .5 volts at 190 deg. I found a sensor near the thermostat but it seems to be only for the instrument temp gauge, does anybody know where the engine coolant temperature sensor that controls the computer is located? Does the computer pick up coolant temp from a different sensor? Thanks
Hi, just wondering if you ever received a response to your question? I have a motorhome with a 6.8L Ford V-10 Chassis. Are there TWO sensors, then or just the one?
Have the same question. My 2012 V10 has terrible cold starts. Long crank, no start. But starts when it's warm.
I think in '12 they just used the CHT (cylinder head temp sensor). Common failure on the 3V 5.4, but it just causes the gauge to peg and limp mode. I haven't heard of it affecting starting. It reads cylinder head temp but doesn't actually touch coolant at all.
