Sorry to hear about that. Man that sucks. My brother's SD caught fire in the back yard just sitting there. His was a V10 though.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Don't use the block heater in your garage."
The chance of fire is small, but it does happen. Glad you and the family are ok, that's the only good thing to come from this. Oh and that you still have a roof over your head.
Bottom Bottom line..... it is only 'stuff'..... even if it is hard to take that it is gone....
Last week I was cussing about all the shingles that I had to put back on my house from all of the wind blowing through. Then watching the news on tv and seeing so much damage and death from the storms. I can say that I have a roof to put shingles on, in a time when many do not and have lost so much. Hug your family and tell them you Love them so much.
That is terrible.. Glad everyone is OK and nobody got hurt. That is the reason i made sure my glow plug system is working perfectly because that heater scares the crap out of me.
We lost a tractor barn from a heater when we were on the farm.. I went in the barn plugged in the tractor, 30 minutes later i seen smoke. Got there to late and not a fire extinguisher to be found. By the time i got the water hose hooked up, it was to late.
I am so sorry for your loss but the blessing is your family is OK and noone was hurt. And as long as you have a good insurance company it will be OK.
I had a garage fire about 3 yrs ago. It was a '73 M/B 450SL 57k and I would only drive it a few times a year. So I started it up and ran in the house to go the bathroom and 2minutes later as I got to the back door flames were shooting out of the garage 25ft from my gas meter. I have never been so scared in my life. Thank God for the Fire Dept. they were there in less than 7 minutes from the start of the fire. Thank you to all you guys that are Fire fighters you guys that are real heroes.
The garage and contents were a total loss.
Brother Les "God, Family, Friends and Country." That is truely what is important.
Glad everybody is okay. Best thing to do is call 911 as soon as possible if something happens. Fire doubles in size every 30 seconds, so if you wait it puts everybody behind the ball starting off. Hope you fine a good replacement after dealing with the insurance.
That was pretty much my outlook,we'll be ok. 17 yr old is a bit scared still and thinking what if this and that happened, I told her but those didn't happen and we need to move on. I got a camera and will ask the girls how to post the carnage. I went up to all the Volunteer firefighters and thanked them, the reply was just doing our job. Pretty cool. The chief used to work for me when he first got out of h.s., also cool . I have to say again when I see my spider melted from the heat, just amazing it was contained to the garage.I did see the ins guy today, don't know what I will get for my 02, but will not be able to get one like it. I bought it with 40k and took care of her, she served me well. Oh and hey my turbo still spins, a little bit crunchy but it still spins . Any ideas on diff truck will be appreciated. Don't know if i want to venture into the 6.0 or 6.4 but am kinda hog tied. Thanks again for replies Jeff
I am a volunteer firefighter for a fire department near the outer edge of Kansas City and about 2 seconds after I read the last post in this thread and feeling very relieved that nobody was injured in the fire, I get a page from fire dispatch for none other than...... a vehicle fire! I'm not making this up!
Well, I'm unable to respond to this one since I live quite a ways away from the department and I come in and do 24 hour shifts when my schedule allows.
Hey drake, I thank you also! I may venture into that also (volunteer). A good friend is an EMT/first responder and I knew quite a few of the folks who were here, from firefighters to sheriff deputy to med support. all extremely nice and supportive. Heck, we had people from 4 depts here. All volunteer,on Sun. am,
dedication, love what they do and do it for nothing except to help other people! Photos forthcoming, have a lot to do today, will try to gain access in d.s.door, pull topper off get tools out and see what I got left.
Sure glad everyone is safe! Thats the priority right there... Must be a heckuva mess tho. But as far as personal disasters go, it sounds like the best disaster possible. A silver lining may be the replacement truck, once you're done wrangling with the insurance company.
