Auto 4WD not working

I have a 2002 f350 with a 7.3 psd with a 4r100 and im trying to diagnose the 4wd. The electronic solenoid on the transfercase does not work. i have voltage to the 4wd switch in the dash and to wiring harness where it plugs into the solenoid. but the solenoind does nothing. is there any way to test the solenoid? Also how does the 4wd operate on these trucks? ive never had to mess with one before.

Have you pulled out the motor at the transfer case to see if it is moving at all?

ESOF uses vacuum to actuate the hubs and electric motor to shift the transfer case.

The motor on the transfer case can be tested with 12V power. Here is the diagram for you.

You mentioned the solenoid. Did you mean the relay?

If so, follow the diagram I posted above. That should help you determine the cause. You can manually trigger the grounds to eliminate the 4WD Control Module to test them.
