My horror !

I was in the market for a different truck, I had a '97 F- 150, the miles were starting to get up there, 200,000, good truck but I needed to start looking. I really like this body style, so 18 months later I find this 2001 F-150, low miles, 54,000 pristine, driven by an old guy, even undercoated, so it had no rust. Ever since I had this truck I would plug it in, it came with a factory block heater, well right after Christmas we got cold weather, -20's, to my horror I came out one morning to find my truck like this ! I'm so lucky my detached garage didn't go up with it. My truck was a total loss. I got lucky again after that, and found this '03 with only 60,000 miles on it, again owned by an old guy who took it to Florida every winter, its never seen a Wisconsin winter, hopefully this one lasts a little longer than the '01

Was it the cruise control wiring?
Was that one part of the recall?

As far as I know, it was the block heater, but I don't know, and I never heard from my insurance company, so I don't know if they ever looked into it. I won't be plugging in my '03.

If you still have the VIN I'd run it through Ford website to see if the Cruise recall was ever done. Block heaters usually just quit and if there's a short I might think the house circuit breaker would blow.

Not just lucky but damn lucky!
Also, I would be too quick to blame the block heater either, sounds more like the cruise control switch recall issue is what's at fault here.

You could be right on the cruise control, I never did any recalls on this truck, I was the second owner.
