FIRE ! !

Hi all, Had a little problem this a.m. my truck was in the garage and it appears as if the block heater or cord started on fire. Truck is gone, wifes car is gone, but thankfully the fire was contained to garage. Most contents of garage are toast, wondering if any of you have heard of this happening to other 02's. I am very thankful that they all got out of the house and no injuries, I may post pic's but trust me it aint pretty. Jeff

You sure it wasn't your cruise control?

Did you have the recall done in it?

Sorry for your loss.

I would love to see some pics. I noticed the extension cord tip was starting to get hot on my truck when I last unplugged it so I just stopped using the block heater. It warmed up so I never got around to troubleshooting it.

Was it plugged into a GFCI plug? Did it not trip a breaker?

Wow, sorry to hear about that.
Like you said good thing you and your family are safe!
Like Chris asked it didnt trip a breaker?
If you havent had the cruise control recall performed that could cause the truck to catch on fire.

Wow, that really sucks. Sorry to hear about your problems.

The truck's block heater must have been plugged in for you to suspect it? With the two vehicles fried, how are you able to focus in on the truck's block heater?

Glad there were no physical injuries or worse!

Had the cruise control recall done,I believe when I got the notice a couple of years ago. I'm not afire marshall but the battery on that side of the engine bay is nowhere to be found, the worst damage is/was right above my truck, the fire spread and the heat toasted the 05 taurus wagon. I can see the block htr.
and it doesn't appear to be blown so i'd have to assume the cord lit up and poop
happened from there, don't know how that could trip a GFCI or a breaker. I have taken some pics and will try to find a way to post them. I sent one to my friend, but when he stopped by, said the pic didn't do justice. (haha i guess)

In theory on the diesels it shouldn't. The gas trucks were having the issues, Ford just captured all trucks in the recall.

What a sad day. It's fantastic that your family is safe, but it's a shame you have to ride the insurance rollercoaster. We'll be rooting for you.

Yeah the losses.... I'm a carpenter/contractor. My truck was/is my rolling office and I don't know what will be next. I haven't had the opportunity to check but I had a topper on it and pulled tools out that looked ok, I will plug them in this am, a bunch of papers and bookkeeping on the front seat that for the most part looked ok. Many blessings, it all depends on how you look at things that the Lord puts in our lives. A note to the post about not plugging in your truck for 3 yrs., I will say that I will probably use another one, it's easier on our diesels. And since there doesn't appear to be a big response of this happening to others,
it must not happen too often. A friend of mine, who is an electrician, said to me last night that it is one of those things that may be a one in a million occurrence. I appreciate all the comments from you guys and as a side note,I have 3 daughters (20,17 and 15), and when they came home and saw the damage, started crying. . . very understandable under the circumstances, the first thing they said to me individually was oh dad your truck! God you gotta love girls raised in the country.
