Just finished swapping a rusty dented tailgate for one not so rusty and not dented. Seems that at one time, the tire rack on my '93 EB was pushed into the gate pretty hard plus there was a rusted thru spot in the drivers side lower corner. Nothing to bad but it bugged me. Finally got around to doing the swap for the one I got at pick n pull a while back.
No pics...one green tailgate for another...
Kept my wiring harness and rear defroster glass, left the motor and all mechanism in the replacement plus mounted my rear EB trim panel.
Pretty straight forward task with nothing out of the ordinary. Window was a bear to remove and install....just didn't seem to want to slide in but we got it.
Now to gut the old gate and decide if anyone local could make use of it.....and rest. Started at noon, completed at 6....
I need to do that to my 96..for some reason on the passenger side, the skin started to separate. I will try welding first, since aside from that it is fine. In case I need to swap....any tips on that window? thanks!
im going to be doing the same thing on my 93, the one i have no is starting to bubble along the bottom, so im going to search the JY's for one not as bad
The window was a pain to remove. Removed the outer seal along the opening but it still needed a wider opening.
Finally got out this way... tailgate down, window free of mechanisms, slide widow to top opening as if to remove it. Then tip the glass up so the top of the glass tilts slightly up from the tailgate which is down. This allows the rivets holding the track mechanism to the window to slip out of the gate. Just working it back and forth gets it out.
To install the glass, it just did not want to fit into the slot.....dang. Then a thought hit me......we slid the window in from the side of the gate, slipping the track mechanism under the rubber seal and it slid all the way across the gate. Then slide it down into the gate and bolt it to the track brackets.
Now, removing it might work better by sliding it sideways.
Now I need to see if there is an adjustment to put the bottom of the gate closer to the seal.....
