The other day I noticed that my tailgate window was very slow in going up especially compared to both of my door windows. I know the glass is much bigger but it seems like its catching somewhere. I took off the access panel to see if I could shed some light on it and found nothing hitting or touching the glass. Should I worry about it or let it go until it breaks??
do you take your top off... I have noticed that my window will act differently after the removal and reattachment of my top. Kinda slow right now... but its winter and I dont use the back window all that much... so no biggy. Just my thoughts. Might try tightenin up some bolts and moving the top around a little.
you can use silicone and lube up the guides and the assembly in the tailgate. Could be its just getting dry and needs a little something to loosen things up a bit. (Sounds like a last date joke to me!)
When you say it sounds like it is catching on something, is it missing a beat also? If so, you'll be replacing the gear soon. Not that hard to replace........try the lube and make sure all is aligned like mentioned above first
If it is the gear, better to go ahead and replace, if not - it will not work with you when it is pouring rain...............
When I first roll the window up it does so smoothly and reasonably quickly but about 3/4 of the way up it slows down quite a bit and almost hesitates. Not sure if it is related but there are also a bunch of hairline cracks vertical to the ground all over the window. The guides inside the tailgate? Would these be the metal felt covered sides the window slides within?
Check the gear in the motor and make sure that isn't shot. Also check that it's lubed properly. My driver side window is slow as hell, this is after I replaced the gear. I think the lube I put in there is jamming things up. It goes up so I'm not complaining for now...
yeah, tailgate window does the same thing. Except it also moans the whole way going up. like it's a medium/fast vibration moan. Anyways.. i've replaced the gear, cause the old one finally cracked over the summer. While I was in there I shot some spray silicone on the felt guides.. also put some grease on the runners that attach the window to the motor. Hasn't helped. I'm wondering if it just isn't the motor getting old and tired.
Thats actually the reason why I posted the problem is I thought for sure spraying WD-40 liberally on the guides and weatherstripping, and putting grease on the internal gears would have some impact but it doesn't seem to have done anything. Is that indicative of a motor or something else that needs to be addressed?
yeah mine does the same but mine stalls in the same spot (about 1 inch from the top), i took the cover off, and it helped for a little while, but now it seems to be getting worse.
Its winter, frozen glass sliding up frozen rubber...it sticks, mine worked flawlessly before winter, but now it catches someway up, even my drivers window sometimes sticks, till I defrost it completey (turn on panel, and point the vents at it...defrost doesnt really work on the sides) and then it works perfect
The felt guides in my tailgate window had worn a bit and actually tore in one place thus causing the fold in the felt to bunch up and bind the window on the way up.
I took a box knife and shaved about 1/16th an inch of the felt off the area where it was binding, liberally applied some silicone oil to both sides and it is working fine for now.
