Tailgate Window
So, the rear tailgate window got stuck in the up position on my daughter's '96 Bronco. Before I got involved, a glass shop tried replacing the motor-no change, so they put the old one back in. My buddy and I took a look today, and the first thing we did was to apply 12 volts directly to the original, motor, and it worked just fine.
We let the glass down, reconnected the motor, then opened the tailgate for closer inspection. We manually closed the left latch (Where the safety switch is located-the carpet panel and access plate were still removed.) and the window operated properly.
Looking at the striker bolts, we observed that the plastic bushing was gone from the left side. I just happened to have an extra bushing (From previous door striker repairs.), installed it and, voila-everything works perfectly!
I love it when a plan comes together. To their credit, the glass shop charged nothing for their attempt-according to my daughter, they were not especially anxious to work on it at the outset....
