I have a very weird problem: For 5-10 minutes my wipers work just fine. Then they start "stuttering". The motor stops for a second, then goes back on. It wipes once or twice, then is off again. Then it stops twice per wipe and gets worse and worse until the wiper only moves inches before stopping again.
I already changed the wiper motor. What else could that be? Has somebody had that problem before? The wiper runs for ages if I switch it off between wipes.
I don't get it!
Mine did this too but I replaced the wiper motor and all is well now. I'm not sure if the interval control is integral to the motor but it could be this.
I had the same problem. I changed the wiper motor but it did not fix the problem. A buddy of mine who is a mech. told me about a little black box about 2X2 square (can't remember what its called)that is behind the dash board wired into the back of the switch.
I changed that and all was well. It was a long time ago but I bought it from the dealer for around 80 bucks.
I think it went bad from the bammm shock when releasing the parking brake. So now I release the break with my foot on it gently.
I also think I have read posts about people fixing the circuit board inside the black box, by soldering bad connections.

The wiper interval regulator. They're easy to find in junkyards since all Fords used the same one from the '70s until ~'91, but they go high on eBay because not many people seem to know it. Check MotorHaven & the classifieds.
Thanks for the replies, guys! Sounds like the interval regulator. I'll look on the junkyards and if it fixes it, I'll be very gentle on the parking brake!
I'll post the reults here!
Thanks!
The part in the dash is called a Wiper Control Module it retails for around 80 bucks or so. It is used on all ford trucks and vans from this generation. Could luck salvage hunting.
I found the Wiper Control Module. Easy to take out and check. There was a big resistor on it that was completely loose. I soldered it back on, but haven't tried it, yet. If that didn't fix it, I'll post again. If you don't hear from me again, it worked.
It can also be the switch on the turn signal stalk (you can pop the cap off the end, disassmble, & clean it) or the motor (also easy to open & inspect).
I already changed the motor and that didn't fix it. The new wiper control module came with a switch, so then I'll have everything switched out
I'll post as soon as I got it all working...
