Terrible shift and EBP sensor
Terrible shift and EBP sensor
For as long as I have my known my 2000 model truck, it has had a terrible neck snapping kidney punch 1-2 shift at times. It was also a little luggy (is that a word) on the 2-3 shift. As it has done it for I know 60k miles, I assumed it was that way and just learned to ignore it for the most part.
Recently, while using a borrowed scan tool for the other truck, I found that the ebp sensor was reading 45 ( i forgot the unit of measurement) with the key on engine off. It would vary slightly when revved by 2 by not much. I cleaned and eventually ended up replacing both the tube and sensor as they were both terrible. I just did the sensor part today.
It pretty much fixed 95% of it. It is still a little luggy on the 2-3 shift but much better all the way around. I did not have the scanner to check the reading but not once over a 70 mile trip tonight did it snap my neck. I am really surprised at how much better it does. I knew that the sensor could effect it slightly but did not realize it would be that much difference.
Thanks to a lot of you guys for the edu-ma-cation on how much it actually did control.

My truck has had same trans problems. Only really does it part throttle though. WOT shifts fine and very light shifts fine. Half-throttle feels horrible. I replaed EBP sensor after finding it flatlined. No change in shifting.
Mine was terrible at any throttle %. Does yours show a reading for ebp with a scanner? Mine was always at 44 and would increase to 46 with a little throttle but would never drop below even with engine off.
Is the EBP tube clear. Might be plugged.
EBP follows engine RPM with new sensor. Appears to be working correctly.
I had some of the same shifting issues. Especially the hard 1-2 shift. Installed a John Wood Valve Body and it totally smoothed things out. Firmed up the 2-3 and the 3-4 shifts as well. Riffraff Diesel: John Wood 4R100 Valve Body

Thanks so much for your post!
I've been having poor shifting in my 7.3l Excursion (after the factory reman transmission was installed) for quite a while. After this quick EBPS tube and sensor cleanup it is running great again. It's finally got the power, acceleration, and smooth shifting that she had before. I won't be surprised if the fuel economy improves as well. Feels like she's finally been "unshackled" and she's ready to run!
Also, I would avoid aftermarket EBP sensors from amazon. I tried one that failed within a week or so. Cleaned up the old ford sensor I had in it and it ran like a champ. Apparently you do get what you pay for.
Anyway - thanks again. You solved a number of my problems with a quick and easy fix!
