Well in the near future I'm planning on putting a new EGR cooler (BPD), new oil cooler, oil bypass system (propably FS2500), going a head and clean turbo, new oil feed line and drain. Even though I don't have any problems now but also the blue spring upgrade, injectors and glow plugs. This way I can beat any problems in the future. I've also read to replace the stand pipes/dummy plugs. My question is as follows, is there a decent write up as far as chaning the pipe/plugs. Since I will have just about everything out I might as well get some of the main issues taken care of.
Changing them out is easy, you'll need to remove the valve covers, and a good set of allen keys to get them out.
If your LUCKY, the stand pipe will come out in one piece, if not...you might have to remove the HPO rail to get the other half out, dummy plugs are easy.
The new plugs are a allen size bigger then the stock ones. Just make sure you have the right size, and you'll be good to go...and TQ them properly.
Late 2004 and early 2005 model years don't use the 10mm allen head rail plugs and standpipes. They use the style that require the 1/2" square drive to remove/replace. They also are the ones that tend NOT to fail, unlike the late 2005 to 2007s.
interesting. well, i changed out my standpipes and dummy plugs sometime back. the dummy plugs were sheared. things run a whole lot smoother now. they're not too hard to do. it's jus tat when ur feeling lazy, it's a mountain to climb. lmao.
