Air Intake

gloss black dual plenum carburetor hat,ram air,cold air,race rat rod nhra,5 &1/8 | eBay

Im really struggling on what to do with my intake setup. I know i want dual intake setup, i dont know if i want to do Cowl or just 2 straight ram intakes.

Anyways in the link above is a picture of a plenum im looking at purchasing, i dont think i can just set it in place of where my current "old schoo" filter is now maybe id have put a hump hose there : Rubber Hump Hose 5" ID: Intake Hoses, IntakeTubing, and Intake Clamps

If i did that would that work? Do you think id be able to clamp the plenum to that hump hose? Or would i have to do like a cobra head Cobra Head Reducing Elbow 5" ID to 4" ID: Intake Hoses, IntakeTubing, and Intake Clamps into a Y pipe? Also does anyone know the exact size of the hole the current filter sits on?

You need a filter still. I have a 10" round open filter on mine, but it's loud. If I had the room, I'd run the Banks filter I have, but it hits the cowl.
The mount on the 7.3 is 5 1/8", same as a standard 4BBL carb. But the bolt is 3/8.

I've been thinking about this non-stop for the last day now, and I think in a roundabout way this may help my noise issues. I currently have an open filter on my 7.3, and the noise in the cab is deafening. I'm looking for a filter housing from a PSD, and likely I'll have to make a 90* elbow myself as the ones I see online all have a downward slant or too small of an inlet diameter.
It'll be interesting to see how that dual one turns out.

Ill post before and after pics of it, I ordered the dual plenum yesterday, so it will probably be next week sometime before i actually get the setup installed. I might go ahead and Drimmel out the holes in the firewall if i get enough time to this weekend, Not sure if i will seeings how ive got injectors, pyrometer, new tps to install and im redoing the return lines.

we will see.

I also filled up yesterday and I am going to document the mileage with out the dual cowl and with the dual cowl, maybe throwing some numbers at you guys will interest you guys enough to try it out for yourself or maybe i wont see any difference at all. Who knows..

Just a FYI the stock intakes off PSD's suck. They dont seal correctly and let dirt and junk in. Plus theyre restrictive on the airflow.

Well, im not sure what im going to use for the arm tubing going from the plenum to the firewall.

I was thinking of just doing sortve like what Ford250 did and getting dryer hose and making hella good seals.

I used 4" dryer duct and it began to crack and split after a few months. I replaced the duct with 4" spectre duct about a year ago and so far no problems.
