Been there done that...my skid panels are all bent up. Sometimes it's fun to use a FX4 off-road . Sorry the truck was damaged...that is never fun.

@Ron - Love the Black Hills! Glad you and the wifey had a good time.

@Stu - You learned a new trick, made your truck look like new, got a new tool and saved a pile of cash.....awesome!

@Tom - That second pond looks like a "hold my beer and watch this" obstacle.

You're not an idiot.....this is an idiot. VVVV

Looks like a fun day in the woods. Damaging the truck isn't fun though.
I feel for you, I turned my left fender into a tree in 2011 and had to get it fixed the following week because I couldn't stand it.

I abused my explorers more than this truck in the woods.
The '98 is still stained red under the hood from deep mud puddles that I shouldn't have been driving through.
For a 4x2, that vehicle went almost anywhere and I don't know how.

I "improved" the running boards on my 2002 4x4.
Water always collected in those flush mounted running boards.
Drove over a fallen tree one day and landed on the front of the boards, bending them them up in the front.
I measured but not good enough.

I'm shocked my truck has only been stuck once and I wasn't even intending to get it stuck when I did.
This is where I park at my farm.
When I pulled in there, like I always do, I had forgotten it had been raining for [what seemed like] a month and my truck sank.
End of life Conti trac tires were the main issue.
It doesn't look bad but all I could do was spin tires.
Took me 45 minutes to dig it out back to the "road," which was a layer of wet pine needles.
Always have a shovel.

@Stu, Good job on the truck, looks good from what I can tell, and a new tool to boot.

@Tom, That's a big water hole you turned around at. You must not of had your wife with you, that or your still hearing about it I bet. Sorry you damaged your new truck.

@kper, That looks like some slick mud.

Cheers !!

Well it happened... deletes are in (or out, depending on how you look at it).

Many thanks to Darren for supplying the hardware, and also my buddies for the install help and co-workers and random strangers I've chatted with at Tim Horton's restaurants (of all places) for finally convincing me to do this. I've had people tell me I should do this practically since the day I bought the truck, but it took me 57,000km to finally get it done.

Flashlight into the EGR tube and... no light comes out. Isn't this supposed to be a open tube inside there?
However this is nowhere near as bad as the EGR parts on my 6.0L. I'd say it's relatively clean compared to what I've seen.

The old "rocketship"

Bit simpler under there now. I see the oil and handling fingerprints are starting to burn off. I guess I have to accept that 409 "Stainless" is actually going to rust anyway.

EGR block off plates put in

I got done in the evening, went for a drive and still witnessed the Canada Day fireworks going off in the city. Great way to spend the day.

Drove back to Whitecourt and burned less than a quarter tank of fuel.
This is with a 6" lift and heavy tires and a bit of a headwind.
Lie-o-meter tells me 13L/100? I haven't seen those numbers since the truck was new and completely stock!

The secondary coolant loop hoses to the EGR cooler are still plugged in. The exhaust intake to it is removed.

That puddle in the pic is the one I didn't attempt, the one before it was nearly as bad.
